LO STAGNONE KITESURFING SPOT, SICILY
Lo Stagnone is a superb kitesurfing spot for beginners and advanced riders, with flat, shallow water across a large lagoon. The season generally runs from April to the end of October. Local thermal effects strengthen the wind and create excellent conditions for lessons and coaching. In most areas the water is no deeper than waist height, helping beginners learn with confidence and giving experienced riders room to practise.
The lagoon lies beside Birgi, a quiet Sicilian village where life moves at an easy pace. Good wind, Mediterranean temperatures and spectacular sunsets make a kitesurfing holiday here a memorable experience. Our kite school at Lo Stagnone provides the equipment and guidance you need, from a beginner kitesurfing course to focused progression. The flat, shallow lagoon is also well suited to lessons for children and teenagers, using appropriate equipment and qualified instruction.

Which kitesurfing course do we recommend?
For beginners, we recommend private kitesurfing lessons because one-to-one coaching is the most efficient way to learn. Your instructor focuses entirely on you, so each hour is adapted to your pace and progress. Lo Stagnone’s large, shallow lagoon provides a controlled environment for safe, productive training.
Shared lessons work well during the first three hours, when much of the course covers equipment, kite handling, safety systems and wind theory. Once training moves into the water, private instruction usually delivers faster progress and more time actively practising each skill.
KITESURFING LESSONS IN SICILY
The price of a private or shared lesson with an IKO-certified instructor includes:
all equipment required for a professional lesson: kite, bar, harness, board, helmet, radio communication with the instructor and a training jersey
the Lo Stagnone spot fee at Stagnone Kitesurf, including access to:
toilets, showers, bar, shaded lounge area, parking and beach assistance with launching and landing kites
usually up to 15 minutes of extra time to select and prepare equipment together or pack it away after the lesson
GoPro video analysis, usually from the water-start stage, provided during the session or on request
Private hydrofoil lesson: €75 per hour
Kite control is the foundation of independent riding. Our kitesurfing course covers correct equipment setup, walking safely with the kite, body dragging, using the kite as a sail and the practical skills needed to become a confident, independent kitesurfer. We teach at Lo Stagnone because its conditions support safe learning and measurable progress. Our goal is to share the sport and show how rewarding an active holiday on the water can be.

During rental, you are responsible for the equipment and your own safety.

How long does it take to learn kitesurfing?
A complete beginner kitesurfing course, from the fundamentals to independent riding, usually takes around 15-20 hours. The first controlled board starts are often possible after about six hours, although progress depends on the conditions, fitness and the individual student. Learning alone can be dangerous, so it is worth starting with a qualified instructor. We have taught since 2009 and know how to deliver kitesurfing lessons safely and effectively at every level.
What happens when there is no wind?
KiteTherapy kitesurfing school in Sicily runs lessons only in safe, suitable wind. If the wind is too light, we can use the time for video analysis and theory, or explore Sicily, from San Vito Lo Capo and the Zingaro Nature Reserve to other kite spots such as Capo Feto and Puzziteddu. Evenings bring spectacular sunsets, local food and time to relax.
Car and scooter rental, airport transfers and accommodation in Sicily
Ask us about trusted accommodation options and additional services, including airport transfers and help arranging a car or scooter. Public transport is limited in this part of Sicily, so a car gives you more freedom to explore beyond the kite spot.
